Christmas begins!

Christmas has now well and truly started at our school with the decorations adorning corridors, classrooms looking colourful and bright and the traditional Advent assembly with just me, the children and a few candles last Friday morning. Magical. It is such a special time of year to work in a school, particularly one where everyone works together so wonderfully well to make each and every occasion just brilliant.

Saturday saw just that, with our amazing Friends of Westwood School, guided by Lee and Gemi putting on yet another showcase event that brought together the entire community and village of Westwood in the most beautiful atmosphere. Having transformed the school on Friday, each area looked so festive and welcoming that it is no wonder people were queueing at the door from 2pm to get in and see the vast array of stalls, crafts  and games on offer. Father Christmas even made a special appearance for the afternoon and set up the perfect grotto in my office. I think I preferred it that way to when I walked in this morning and I might have to change it back!

From racing Santas to the ever popular Tombola, with a widely stocked Christmas Cafe in the meadow to children’s arts, face painting and lucky dip in Thistle class. The children from Orchid class even set up their own stalls again in Clover class, all planned and organised in their own time. Every corner of the school was alive with Christmas joy and it made for such an enjoyable afternoon.

Throughout the fair our fabulous broadcasters also took turns to host a full length Christmas radio show, playing everyone’s favourite songs, children’s wishes for Christmas, interviews and generally had fun taking over the studio for the afternoon! They all did the most amazing job and I am so proud of their ability to keep a show going live on air to the world for that length of time.

Of course, our enormous thanks must go to our brilliant FoWs for their hard work, commitment and dedication to putting on such a super event. I must thank, in particular, Lee and Gemi and also Francesca, who procured some truly stunning prizes for the raffles. Thank you all so very much for your efforts and for giving up so much time to support our school. We raised a staggering £1132 on Saturday and that is just tremendous.

Here are some photos I managed to take of the festivities on the day and also our Christmas Fair radio show to listen again, complete with festive tunes. Enjoy!

Another fantastic Christmas Fair!

This afternoon the school was once again filled with the smells, sounds and atmosphere of the magic of Christmas time as we held our Christmas fair. Superbly organised by our dedicated and simply brilliant Friends of Westwood School, there was something for everyone, from hand made crafts to a feast of festive treats and even FC himself dropped by, taking time out from his busy preparations to talk to our children.

It is always lovely to see the school buzzing with excitement and I always feel proud that so many members of our community join us as we kick off the countdown to Christmas in style. My enormous thanks go to everyone involved in making this event such a tremendous success. We are so lucky to have the unwavering support of our FoWs who always give up so much of their time and energy to put on such fantastic fundraising events. Thank you everyone for such an enjoyable afternoon. Here are some photos (thanks Jo!) of the fun we had:

A very Christmassy Weekend!

I cannot think of a better way to revive my posting again than by writing about the thoroughly enjoyable weekend that has just passed. On Saturday afternoon we were able to, once again, enjoy the atmosphere, excitement and festive fun of the FoWs Christmas Fair.

Superbly organised by Ann and Elaine, a very committed group of volunteers  all gave their time to decorate and transform our school into a Christmas wonderland with something for everyone to enjoy. An enchanting Santa’s Grotto, tea and mince pies in our cafe and an array of stalls, activities and games kept our biggest ever attendance busy for two and a half hours. At this moment we do not know how much we raised, but the true community spirit was once again here in large abundance to make the afternoon so very special. Thank you to everyone who came and supported us and my sincere thanks to all of our Friends of Westwood school for working so hard to make the occasion so wonderful.

As I was completely in the mood for being festive, my family and I  decorated our house yesterday. I don’t often share things from home, but my wife and girls did such a good job on our trees I thought I would share them!
