Today in school we have been enjoying a huge range of mathematical activities as part of our whole school Maths Day. Every class took part and classes were filled with everything from skittles to a science and maths cross curricular activity in Orchid class counting taste buds! There really was something for everyone and the children had a fantastic time.
Here are some photos of our lovely day.
This morning Thistle and Clover class have been enjoying some drama during their learning time. Faye visited us to work with both classes and a huge amount of fun was had by everyone as they pretended to be a variety of characters, exploring their creative skills.
Here are some photos of the children having a fantastic time. Do please ask them what they were enjoying!:
Once again school has been buzzing with language and creativity as the children had fun taking part in a whole school story day. With each class taking a focus story, from Aliens Love Underpants and The Magic Bed in Thistle and Clover Class to The Wolf that Cried Boy in Lotus and Anansi the Spider in Orchid, each class had a day filled with opportunities to extend their writing skills.
We strive to continually improve our reading year on year and the teachers all worked so hard to prepare a day of exciting and engaging learning based entirely around the one fantastic book, with this being an ideal way to develop cross curricular writing, reading, speaking and listening and spelling. Everyone had such a great time and the children were completely immersed in their activities.
We also started our whole school read for the first time. At least once a month classes will now be pairing for 20 minutes during the day so that older children and younger children have the opportunity to read together, enjoy books and learn from each other. This is something that we think will have a huge benefit for our entire school community.
To end the day yesterday we then had a whole school assembly and shared our learning from the day. The enthusiasm and excitement with which the children shared their learning from Story Day was a joy to see and we are already looking forward to the next one!
Here are some photos I took of the children completely enjoying their learning throughout the day:
This week has been so much fun! Already we are at the end of Week 2 of this term and it feels as if the term is fairly racing by. Probably because we are so busy with so much exciting learning taking place. Topics such as The Magic Toymaker, Bright Sparks and The Holiday Show are exciting and enthralling our children with some fascinating and wonderful learning. I have had the pleasure of seeing all classes in action and they are so keen to learn and further their knowledge.
Our radio show continues to innovate and push new boundaries with the children showing tremendous confidence behind the microphone, attracting praise from many people. I am so proud of them all and this week I was thrilled to start our first radio club for those children who would like to learn more about how school radio works and are not currently broadcasters. Their first recording is below. Please do give them a listen, they were superb!
I have also started a lunchtime darts club this week to teach our children a new sport and also to sharpen our mental maths skills. With safety at the forefront of our session, the children all listened brilliantly and we were able to have a lot of fun whilst developing hand-eye coordination and some great mental arithmetic without even knowing it. I’m looking forward to this week’s club already!
When I read on social media how so many Heads are finding the job increasingly difficult I do count my blessings that i work in an incredibly supportive community with wonderful parents, amazing children and committed, brilliant staff. We are in the Wiltshire Times this week so please do check out the article. http://www.wiltshiretimes.co.uk/news/inyourtown/bradfordnews/15024021.Westwood_with_Iford_Primary_School_bursting_with_ideas/
